Porcelain

Porcelain Countertops

Endless Array of Colors

Porcelain is man-made stonelike material that is formed by heating and molding different minerals such as silicas, feldspars and clay. It comes in an endless array of dark and light colors and can amazingly resemble just about any natural material such as marble, obsidian, flint, concrete, clay or even wood!

Porcelain Practicality and Functionality

Porcelain is a versatile material that is not normally the first stone that comes to mind when considering custom countertops, island or vanity for your home. But it is an extremely extravagant option that will set your kitchen or bathroom apart from everyone else’s. It is an ideal option for high-traffic areas. Porcelain is hygienic because of its non porous material that repels air, fluids and bacteria. It is also UV resistant so it is a great option for outdoor spaces such as kitchens. Since porcelain is not a natural stone, but is man made and comes in large slabs that are perfect for a kitchen island or floor-to ceiling fireplace surrounds, and is especially used for walls. The large slabs make it easy to hide any visible seams.

Porcelain is lightweight and very elegant but do not let that fool you. It stands up to other stones like marble and quartz in hardness and durability. This surface can be easily maintained since it is not susceptible to staining or discoloration.

How to Maintain Porcelain

Porcelain can be kept with mild household cleaners or warm soap water. It is resistant to both cold and hot temperatures; perfect for indoors or outdoors. Chipping, cracks and scratches are possible but not common. Porcelain is most vulnerable prior to installation; during fabrication or transportation. This is why it’s essential to have a reputable company like Granite and Marble Designs, with expert fabricators and installers, to take on your porcelain design project.
